Robert Cartotto, Painter
Rob is a self-taught artist, who works out of his studio near Dorset, Ontario, close to Algonquin Provincial Park. Small en plein air field sketches in oil sometimes inform his larger paintings which are completed in the studio.

The landscape is his passion and he creates art to express what he sees and feels in nature by depicting mood, light, shadows, textures, depth, and movement in his paintings. Rob is also inspired by observing the passage of time by noting the subtle yet continuous changes in weather, light, the night sky, flora, and fauna, similar to the Japanese practice of recognizing the 72 micro-seasons — Shichijūni Kō.
His large murals replicating works by Tom Thomson and The Group of Seven pay homage to the artists and their art that first awed and inspired him.
